Loving and Appreciating Support

Loving and Appreciating Support

My name is Ava and I am a freshman at Cardinal Newman High School. This months theme is on “Loving and Appreciating Support.” All throughout my life I have had an amazing support system through my friends and family. I lived in Virginia from the time I was born, to the time I was about to enter middle school. Five years ago my family and I moved to Florida. It was an extremely hard move and I struggled with finding friends at my new school and settling in. My family members were very helpful and they pushed me to be more open and step out of my comfort zone. It is really important to have people that you can trust to help you through the bumps in the road.

Recently, I have found another amazing support system through Women Making Waves. I am new to this organization but I already feel as if I have gained a second family. The Women Making Waves members and director have really been there for me and I know I can come to them for anything. That is the beauty of this organization. It is a wonderful place to have fun and connect with others as well as talk about any of your issues with school/social life and any other problems that you need help with. I can't express enough how much I have grown already from this organization. I have always struggled with insecurities and body image, but since I have entered Women Making Waves, I realized that I'm not alone. This organization has also taught me to love myself and not compare myself to anyone else, and that has helped me become a better person and “Love the Me I See.” I am really looking forward to pass this on to younger girls who I will mentor in the future. I want them to know that everyone is different and beautiful in their own way. I also want to give them a good support system and let them know that they can always come to any of members to talk and resolve their issues. Overall, Women Making Waves has provided a wonderful support system for me and many more young girls in the future.
