Crew Leadership Program

Our girls program, fondly referred to as "Crew", is dedicated to giving our girls the opportunity to mature into confident, young adults while building long-lasting supportive friendships. Girls bond over: media literacy, social justice, friendship conflicts, resolution skills, how to ask for help, including internal pressures and values. One must admit, in life these skills are priceless. We then embrace and encourage sharing leadership skills with younger generations in our "Splash Sessions" allowing our leaders to give back to the community by mentoring to elementary school girls.

Stand up foundation is a unique, teen initiated non-profit organization, dedicated to social and emotional help in our community. While we creatively tackle these issues in many ways, one of the most popular is our gender specific programming designed just for middle school students. Middle school is often an overwhelming jungle of insecurity, bullying, peer group pressure, and difficult choices in general, indeed a crucial turning point for many.  Stand Up foundation hopes to be "the port in the storm".

Our middle school programs focus on inspiring leadership skills, confidence, ethics, and qualities within the student and their school population.

These programs instill confidence and communication skills, social and emotional health, consideration and empathy, as our leaders give back to the community. We are proud to say our middle school program is truly unlike any other. We are dedicated to preparing your daughter for high school and beyond, instilling in her: confidence, integrity, courage, open mindedness, humility and compassion, positive traits that teens often wrestle with. Women Making Waves sets the standards high for the future of your daughter.

Middle school girls and guys, ages 11-14, have a lot going on in their worlds, and as different as it may be, some of it is very similar. Cognitively they are beginning to think abstractly and with this grows concern regarding truth, justice, fairness and personal rights. You might begin to see your middle school student become rigid in beliefs where they used to be more flexible. Emotionally and socially we know it's a whirlwind, and some of this is attributed to the variety of hormonal changes and swelling of the amygdala, causing your son or daughter to become a “tad irrational”. They also are often experiencing the awkward physical development at this time, which varies widely and causes comparisons among themselves and others. During all of this, they begin to (attempt to) develop a sense of self in relationship to others as well as to their own internal thoughts and desires. We often see that peer influence becomes incredibly important at this age as they struggle to create their own identity. Unsuccessful navigation through this time can easily lead to role confusion, leaving them to wonder: ”Who Am I?”.

Crew and Mountaineers is designed to help middle school students answer that question while forming leadership habits early. We have created programming that is not only fun, with plenty of out door activities, but also educational and prevention driven. We are promoting healthy decisions and choices that build character and reduce risk factors. By having the students surrounded by positive role models, close in age, it is easy to see how effective our programming is.

Twice a quarter our middle school students then mentor younger children in the community. We then promote events hosted by our leaders, where they learn about philanthropy, fund fundraising, event planning, while inviting the community. These are invaluable tools to add to your child's resume, and prepare them to enter high school.

Continuing to go full circle all their hard work is counted as community service work.

We look forward to making a splash with your middle school daughter at Crew or moving a mountain with your middle school son at Mountaineers.  The best way for us to create more leaders is by sharing experience and “leading” them.
